Why Do We Call It Christmas

What’s In The Bible? (WITB) is a wonderful DVD series by VeggieTales® creator Phil Vischer. This series  gives children {and parents} the chance to take a journey through the whole Bible learning many things along the way. Our family has had the opportunity to view two of these amazing movies together and have been blessed tremendously. I am not sure who is learning more – the children or my husband and I.

Why Do We Call It Christmas? is an hour long movie that investigates the many reasons why December 25 is called Christmas. News anchor Buck Denver decides to have a Christmas party at his cabin inviting all of his friends to try and figure out the age old question, “Why do we call it Christmas?” Through Grandma’s cooking, Pastor’s singing, and lots of action in between, we are taken on a journey that gives us insight and answers about Christmas that most people would never know.

Perfect Fit For Our Family

When I first saw the advertisements for the Why Do We Call It Christmas? DVD, I knew it was the perfect one for our children at this time. Recently while driving thru the beautiful German countryside, our 3-year-old son asked me, “Mommy, who is Santa Claus?” I began to explain to him the story of Saint Nicholas. It was then that I realized how confusing the topic of Christmas really is. I was delighted to see a DVD from Phil Vischer that would help explain this subject to our three precious children.

What We’re Loving About “What’s In The Bible”

One of the main things that we enjoy about this series is the fact that everyone watching {including mom and dad} are gaining a very fresh and insightful perspective about the Bible. Not only do we gain new information, it is prompting us to study more about the history behind Christmas as a family. Being that we live in Germany right now, we are smack in the middle of many historical places that are referenced in this DVD and are hoping to travel to many of these sites in Germany and Rome, Italy.

We also enjoy the fact that this series is designed to take you thru the entire Bible {from Genesis to Revelation} as a family. This DVD series is something that we have been looking for for a long time. Prior to watching What’s In The Bible Volume 1, my husband and I had yet to find a DVD series that could speak to the youngest in our family {3-year-old} to the oldest {36-year-old}.

Of course I cannot fail to mention that we are happy to see that Phil Vischer’s humorous approach to creating the characters {just like in Veggie Tales} does not disappoint in WITB characters. While all of the characters were great, our family favorite was We were busy laughing while we were being taught precious truth about the reason behind why December 25, is called Christmas. I don’t know about you, but laughter is something that our family thrives on and for it to be mixed with content as important as this was just a wonderful blessing.

Always look forward to reading your blog! And am excited to watch WITB with my lil’ ones…we have loved all the VeggieTales movies!!!

    • Thanks, Sonya :) I agree, we loved Veggie Tales too! This series is awesome and it makes me happy that our oldest (11-year-old) was totally watching it with excitement as were her two little brothers (and mom and dad too :). Have a great day!

  3. There are a couple of the dvd’s that I’d love to see but this one looks like one I need for sure!

  4. These sound like good DVD’s. I would like my kids to see the Christmas one as well.

  5. Melanie Evans says:

This is incredibly relevant and know matter who wins this, it will make the world a better place. Thank you for this review. I may buy this for my niece and nephew for Christmas this year–I love how it incorporates the things I learned in college about the timeline of Christ’s birth and in animated form! Is there any other company that does this? I mean, do they have a corner on the market or what? AWESOME! Why Do we call it CHRISTmas? is my favorite because it is the most relevant to the most people. We were not going to have a tree this year, because someone said you aren’t supposed to cut down the evergreen tree and bring it into your house because “pagans” did that. Here is an article about the controversy of Should Christians celebrate Christmas…it show s the controversy. I do not have this figured out yet and I have only read 1/2 of this article but I am only trying to show the need for us to understand a major tradition. Carlie–love your blog and I follow you on Pintrest~

  6. Maranda says:

HOW exciting!! I love the Christmas one!! But I would also love the “Words to make us wise”.

  7. I would love the Christmas one. My son loves Christmas, but he misses the point often :) Maybe this would help move the focus to Jesus and not presents.

  8. Danielle Hull says:
