Scripture Memorization Challenge: Resting in Him (Week 44)
This week’s Scripture is Psalm 127:2 (KJV):
It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
In studying Psalm 127:2 back in my college days, I realized one amazing truth about this verse: it has very little to do with physical sleep and more to do with trusting the Lord. I learned that in order to enter into His rest, trust is key. What this verse is teaching us is that rather than being worrisome and toiling for all we have, why do we not enter into His rest? It’s a simple question with a very complex answer that will vary from person to person. However, it is something we must all ask ourselves. And there is a way to obtain the beloved sleep that God promises in this verse.
To be clear, I am not suggesting that one should not work for a living, nor am I saying that we should be lazy and wait for God’s blessing to fall into our lap. Rather I am saying that in order to rest in Christ, we must first learn to trust that He is who He says He is. Once we submit ourselves to Him, we are able to rest in knowing that He will provide our every need if we just listen to His voice. So instead of toiling, let us be guided by His voice so our work is not in vain and our rest is sweet, beloved sleep that only He can give.
Who’s with me? Will you make it a point to submit every area of your life to Christ today in order to experience that beloved sleep that He gives to His children? This isn’t an easy feat and we will continuously have to search our hearts in order to remain in His rest, but as long as we are committed to Him, He will never let us down!
Commit this verse to memory.
Identify some areas of your life where trust is lacking in your relationship with God. Submit those areas to God and pray and ask Him to show you exactly how you can enter into the beloved sleep His Word promises His children.
Pray and ask the Lord to show you someone who is in need of entering into His rest. Be a light to them and share with the God’s message of hope and scriptures that we’ve been memorizing this month!
