If your family is anything like ours, you know and can relate with the many demands on our time. We're constantly being pulled in a thousand different directions. There are so many great things to do with our kids, but ultimately, we want to do the best things with our kids. It's incredibly important to my husband and me that we take the time to really invest in their lives. This means we intentionally point back to our Creator and make Jesus famous to them every chance we get. "Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you Continue Reading...This post may contain affiliate links. See my full disclosure policy.
I don't know about you, but this time of year really seems to reveal the striving in me. And when I look around at all the other all-wrung-out mamas who just need to rest and slow down to take in all of God’s grace, it's like I'm starring into a mirror. I get it. I really do. How about you? Do you find yourself striving too, especially around the holidays? In my own life, it’s the day-to-day living that often becomes the catalyst for striving to do more and be better. The everyday chaos of raising and teaching my children while trying to keep up with the laundry and the dishes and trying to Continue Reading...This post may contain affiliate links. It's the end of a long week (or perhaps the beginning of an even longer week ahead), the to-do lists are long, exhaustion is creeping in, and you can't remember the last time you and your spouse went out on a date. It weighs heavy on your heart and mind. There's a long list of reasons why dating your spouse feels so out of reach, but still...you allow yourself to daydream a bit of what it might be like to enjoy some one-on-one time with the one who who holds your heart. Maybe it's been so long since you dated your spouse that you can't even remember what that was like. Or could it be you've Continue Reading...This post may contain affiliate links. Throughout the year there are designated holidays for celebrating the ones you love. And each year, we celebrate them to their fullest...but it's a beautiful thing when we can show the ones we love how much we care about them even when it isn't a hallmark holiday. One of my favorite ways to make my sweet husband feel loved is to plan a fun family night focusing on all the things he appreciates the most. And because it's really important to show our children how to love and honor their parents, I include them in all the planning and preparation, too. They love family fun night anyway...but Continue Reading...This post may contain affiliate links. See my full disclosure policy.
I love the beginning of a new school year. I revel in the planning, new school books, sharpened pencils, notebooks filled with lined paper, book shelves neatly organized, and a fresh new school calendar ready for the year ahead. The newness of it all reminds me of how I feel at the dawn of a brand new calendar year. However, the one thing I never feel quite prepared for is physical education. P.E. We're a homeschooling family and enjoy the outdoors more than anything. Our classroom setting often changes from day to day, taking us on wild and active adventures, providing opportunities for Continue Reading...This post may contain affiliate links. I remember her hands as clear as day. Soft and freckled. We'd sit at her dining room table, my hand in hers, just talking for hours, my Grandma Margaret and I. She was the sort of person everyone loved to be near. Her heart sang stories of old and her smile melted away all anxieties this girl ever had. She always soothed my soul and calmed my fears. That's what it feels like to be loved by Jesus through another person. He loves to love us like that and I'm so grateful. My grandma was a free-spirited, fun-loving woman who loved to laugh, loved her God, and enjoyed sharing life with Continue Reading...This post may contain affiliate links. Anchor. It's a word that seems to imply many different meanings and concepts. But from a Biblical perspective, it denotes Hope. And what is Hope? I think a better question if you're thinking in terms of faith, is this... WHO is Hope? Hope is a person and His name is Jesus. "We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure." Hebrews 6:19 Jesus is our security. He is our One defense and constant source of Hope. And since Hope is an anchor for the soul, we can know that like our Hope, an anchor keeps us from drifting. It serves as something that holds us firmly in place and can Continue Reading...This post may contain affiliate links. See my full disclosure policy.
The word "bored" is not actually part of my vocabulary. At least, not anymore. I loathe the word because, in my opinion, there is just no good reason on this earth that we should ever be bored. Our God has so many great plans for us, so much we're called to, that we can literally spend our lifetime just following Him, seeking Him, being a student of His Word and pouring into others, and there would never be time to feel bored. However, why is it that I have felt bored, even boring? It wasn't until I prayed very specifically about this, laying all my frayed emotions and mixed-up feelings at Continue Reading...This post may contain affiliate links. See my full disclosure policy.
When was the last time you felt truly ALIVE? Think about it. Can you put a name to that thing, that eye opening, soul awakening, life defining thing that makes you want to shout it from the mountaintops? This Lenten Journey has caused my heart to yearn for a daily awakening like never before. And I've wondered, is it possible? It's a question I've asked myself over and over again as I feel God prodding this girl to shed her skin, shed the things of this world and everything that hinders. What truly makes me feel ALIVE? The answer I arrived at surprised me, but only for a moment. When I Continue Reading...This post may contain affiliate links. See my full disclosure policy.
It's early morning, 5:38am to be exact. My over-tired eyes have only been closed for a couple of hours, when I hear my alarm ringing next to me. I reach over to mute it, but my hand runs into something. Barely able to open my eyes, I see my two youngest sons silently staring at me, just waiting for their mama to wake up. This was not part of my plan. Don't get me wrong. I adore my sweet children to pieces. But there's a reason I've set my alarm to wake me up so early even though I barely got any sleep. And it did not include...taking care of requests and needs from two small ones at such an Continue Reading...This post may contain affiliate links. See my full disclosure policy.
